Three weeks ago, on Tuesday, November 5, Virginia voters went to the polls. Yesterday, the Virginia State Board of Elections officially certified the results, thereby closing the books on another exciting statewide election cycle in the Commonwealth.
I want to thank the voters in the 35th District for electing me to serve another term in the House of Delegates. I am truly humbled and honored to be able to continue to represent them in Richmond.
The final count for my race was 14,632 to 7,961 votes, which is a win of 64.65% to 35.18% (incidentally, on election night and during the early morning the next day, the Washington Post and other local news outlets reported inaccurate numbers showing a much tighter race, based on faulty news wire service, instead of relying on data from the county or state officials!).
I want to thank you for all you did to help me win this election.
You made generous contributions to pay for my campaign materials, you knocked on doors of neighbors, you made phone calls into thousands of homes, and you showed up at debates, candidates' forums, rallies and house parties to generate energy and support for my reelection.
A special shout out to my very dedicated and hard-working campaign manager Julia Kim who made sure that we had the resources and strategy to deliver a huge victory.
I couldn't have done this without the entire Keam Team pulling together, and I can't thank you enough for believing in me.
During this week of giving thanks, I am most grateful for the love of my wife and kids who have endured countless evenings and weekends without me at home. While I chose this life of politics, my family didn't have as much to say about it. But Alex, Tyler and Brenna have been incredibly understanding and supportive beyond reason, and I owe them so much for their sacrifice.
As I reflect on the holiday season beginning this week, I want you to know how important it is that I have you as friends and supporters along this journey of public service. I will never forget that this is about you, your hopes and your dreams. My role is to make our government represent all of those values, with your input.
I hope you will be able to enjoy a little break this week to spend time with your loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving today and every day!
P.S. Yesterday, the State Board also certified that Terry McAuliffe will be Virginia's new Governor, Ralph Northam will be our next Lieutenant Governor, and Mark Herring will be Attorney General come January. Because the Attorney General race was won with only a 165-vote difference out of more than 2.2 million votes cast statewide, that race will likely go into a recount process. It is not quite over yet!
