Public Forum on Tysons Corner
With the redistricting that took place in Richmond earlier this year, our new 35th House District includes two precincts I didn't have before: Tysons and Magarity, which are bordered by Route 7/Leesburg Pike to the West, Route 123/Chain Bridge to the Southeast and the Dulles Toll Road to the North.
These new precincts cover Tysons Corner, which is considered the "downtown" of Fairfax County and is Virginia's largest office market with more than 26.6 million square feet of office space.
As the 12th largest employment center in the nation, Tysons includes corporate or regional headquarters of dozens of large companies. It also includes more than 6 million square feet of retail space for shopping malls, the highest concentration of hotels in Fairfax County, and hundreds of small businesses.
For residents like us who live or work in or around Tysons, all this development can be a mixed blessing. While we enjoy the benefits of its robust social life and the jobs that keep our local economy humming, we continue to suffer from the massive transportation, traffic, construction and infrastructure developments that disrupt our daily lives.
One fact is undeniable. The rapid development of Tysons Corner region is real and we residents should be prepared for even more changes happening in the coming years.
To learn the latest on various aspects of Tysons expansion, I invite you to join me at a public informational forum next Wednesday, September 28, in my district office in Vienna.
As the state Delegate who will represent this region starting next January, I am beginning to prepare for any legislative issues that may come up in the Virginia General Assembly that involves Tysons Corner.
That is why I have invited various government and private sector stakeholders to brief us on the latest developments, and to help me understand what I can do to ensure that the expansion of Tysons Corner will cause the least impact on our residents.
This free and public forum is open to any interested constituent so please come with your questions for the experts. I look forward to seeing you next week!
