Delegate Mark Keam - Virginia's 35th House District

Delegate Keam urges fair redistricting for Town of Vienna

Last night, Delegate Keam attended a public hearing held by the House of Delegates' Privileges and Elections Committee, Redistricting Subcommittee in Northern Virginia as part of its statewide series of meetings to gather public input into next year's redistricting process.

On behalf of the Town of Vienna, Delegate submitted this letter into the record of the proceeding, and spoke personally with Chairman Mark Cole about the request as well.

                                                                  October 5, 2010

The Honorable Mark L. Cole
Chair, Redistricting Subcommittee
House Privileges and Elections Committee
General Assembly Building, Room 808
Richmond, Virginia 23219

Dear Chairman Cole:

I have the honor of representing the Town of Vienna in the House of Delegates, which is wholly within my legislative District, number 35.

As you and your colleagues on the Redistricting Subcommittee develop the important redistricting plans for the Commonwealth in the coming weeks, I urge you to do all you can to keep the entire Town of Vienna in one legislative district so that the constituents of the Town can be represented by a single Senator and a single Delegate in the General Assembly.  Naturally, I would also request that the House District for the Town of Vienna remain in District 35 which is where it is today.

Enclosed are copies of two letters from Vienna Mayor M. Jane Seeman who wrote to you and to the Senate Subcommittee Chair making the same request last month.  I hope you will agree with this reasonable request to ensure that the Town of Vienna and all of its constituents continue to be served in its current form.

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time at (703) 350-3911.
